For some time now, the Bambui Kingdom has, under the leadership of King (Foo) Angafor Mombo-oh III, been constructing an ultramodern museum which will house some of the Kingdom’s most valuable artifacts, antiques, archaeological collectibles as well as document the history of the Kingdom. In short, when completed, the Museum will be Bambui in microcosm.
Planned to reflect the over 600 years of Bambui, the museum will be a storehouse of Bambui yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Added to this blend of history, tradition and modernity will be a modern library and a multimedia centre that will be located in the museum. Intended to serve as a panoramic overview of Bambui history, culture and tradition, the museum will therefore be Bambui in miniature.
Through the museum, visitors will learn valuable insights into the Kingdom’s prehistory, culture, tradition, and modernity. After all, isn’t it a well-known fact that it is easier to appreciate a people or a nation when you know something about its past, present and its future? That is exactly what the Bambui Kingdom museum is intended to be.
Bambui has a lot to offer in terms of art and material culture. This ultramodern museum will help visitors to gain insight into what is distinctive about Bambui’s artistic and cultural heritage. For anyone aspiring to savour a glimpse of the rich and diverse Bambui history, art, culture and tradition, refer to ‘The Art of the Bambui Kingdom (Western Grassfields, Cameroon)’ by Dr Mathias F Alubafi. This book will prove useful to those wishing to have a foretaste of the beauty and richness of Bambui Art, especially since it is written by someone who has lived, and still is living, the Bambui experience.
